Hamilton Hall Pickup for IT Recycling Day - Oct. 18

Image by One Tree Hill Studios via Flickr
I have arranged for Facility Services to pick up items for recycling from Hamilton Hall on Tuesday, October 18th so that we don't have to carry things over or trundle them awkwardly on the little blue cart from the office.
Drop-Off Location and Time
Facility Services will collect old electronic equipment - computers, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, etc. - from the table near room 206 on the West end of the main floor of Hamilton Hall.
The pickup is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, but because FC doesn't know how much they'll be collecting it might be Wednesday before things get picked up; it could even be Tuesday morning. So Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning would be the best time drop things off.
Because the table is used by students quite often, let's put the recyclables there no earlier than Monday afternoon, if possible, so as not to interfere.
Hard Drives and Data Security
I strongly recommend that you don't leave hard drives in any computers you leave at the pickup table; there may be old tests, passwords or personal information accessible on them - even if you have deleted the files.
Please contact me if you plan to leave a computer for recycling and I will come take out the hard drive ahead of time and then make sure it is securely deleted before recycling. If you take a computer directly to the recycling event tent on the BSB lawn, UTS staff will wipe the disk for you.

Campus IT Recycling Day - October 19th
UTS & Facility Services - together with several other departments - will be collecting old computers, printers, etc. on Wednesday, October 19th on the lawn across from University Hall. Hard drives will be erased before recycling if requested.
See the announcement for details.http://www.mcmaster.ca/sustainability/waste_IT.html.
HH-403 Printer is Down
The laser printer in HH-403 (the AIMS lab) is down for the next few days with a serious jam which will require some disassembly to get at. The jam is likely due - and the stench of melted plastic most certainly - to some damage caused when someone tried to print onto regular transparencies yesterday. So further repairs may be necessary once the jam is cleared.
For the nonce, please use the HP LaserJet outside of HH-303 (the queues are named "HH-303 HPLJ 4345" and "lp3").
