Important announcements and notices regarding the website and the course will be posted here.

December 9, 2019 Your fourth assignments are now ready for pickup from my office. Please note that I can only give you your own assignment.

December 9, 2019 I will be in my office for any questions between 10 and 2:30 today.

December 7, 2019 A couple of people have asked me to clarify the coverage of the exam. It will cover all nine sets of my lecture notes, the textbook up to and including Section 6.3 (except the Miscellanea parts of each chapter) and the assignments.

December 6, 2019 The following formulae will be included as part of your examination next week. This should not be taken as any indication of what will or will not be on the examination, it is merely a set of results that can be assumed. They may, or may not, be needed in the actual examination but are posted here for your information.

December 6, 2019 I have posted the solutions to the final assignment.

November 28, 2019 I have posted the ninth set of lecture notes. These notes will conclude the first part of the course.

November 26, 2019 There was a typo in the version of the assignment posted this morning. I question 3a) (ii), the variable should be Zn=X(n)-μlog(n). I have now corrected the assignment and reposted it. If you already downloaded the assignment, please do so again to get the correct version. Sorry for the inconvenience.

November 26, 2019 I have posted your fourth and final assignment for this half of the course.

November 21, 2019 I have posted the eighth set of lecture notes.

November 4, 2019 As announced today in class, the December test will be a closed book test. The tentative date (subject to room availability) is Tuesday December 10, 10am-1pm. Once a room is confirmed I will post the location and definitive time for the test here and announce it in class.

September 23, 2019 I have now posted the first assignment which is due at the start of class on Thursday October 3, 2019. Sorry for the earlier typo in the date, the due date is October 3, 2019 as specified on the assignment itself.

September 5, 2019 There was a discrepancy between what I announced in class and what I had written on the course outline regarding the number of assignments and their worth. I have now adjusted the course outline to agree with what I announced - 4 assignments worth 15% each and a final exam worth 40%. Sorry for the confusion.

September 3, 2019 To accommodate the mandatory TA training for all TAs in Mathematics and Statistics, the class on Thursday September 5 will be cancelled. Subject to room availability I hope to hold a makeup class on Thursday December 5. Sorry for the inconvenience.

September 2, 2019 Welcome to the first half of the full-year course STATS 743 Foundations of Statistics. Due to higher than expected enrollment the course timetable is now for 3 50-minute classes per week as described above. The first class will be at 12:30 on Tuesday, September 3. I have now posted a course outline and the first set of lecture notes. I will generally try to post course notes here before the class where we cover them. Each set of notes will cover approximately one week of classes.

Lecture Notes

Copies of my lecture notes will be posted here. I will try to have them posted prior to the class in which we cover them but cannot guarantee that I will always succeed. Occasionally you may find errors in these notes; if you do please bring them to my attention and I will correct and repost the notes.

Assignments

Assignments will be posted here approximately one week before the due date and their solutions will be posted approximately one week after the due date.
