Plateau Mont-Royal

The plateau is a residential neighbourhood that as a lot of interesting restaurants. Most appartement houses are triplex or duplex and have outside stairs to the second floor (architectural trait of Montreal houses).

Must see :

Tam-tam on Mont-Royal (summer), a very popular weekly (on sundays) and spontaneous drum and percussion fest. It's around the Cartier monument and part of the Mont-Royal park (on park ave.). Take the 80 bus from Place-des-Arts metro station north and get off when you see a large group of people (it's easy to spot). Don't go there by car, there's no place to park

Mile-end neighbourhood (mainly St-Viateur street and Fairmount street near Park avenue), best known for the famous Montreal bagels (Fairmount Bagels opened 24 hours a day), and it's souvlaki (ar Arachova).

Lafontaine park (east of Berri street, on Sherbrooke street), closed after midnight, not to be visited alone at night anyway. You can walk around during the day in the summer or skate on the lake in the winter

the LUX (restaurant most popular after the bars close), the Kilo (for desserts), the Whisky Bar (for it's bathrooms, on the corner of Bernard and St-Laurent), all on St-Laurent between St-Viateur and Rachel (there are a lot more trendy shops and restaurants, just look around)

Mount-Royal street east (between St-Denis and St-Laurent), for it's "recycled" clothes shops; or east of St-Denis for it's used records, books and CD stores.
