Assignments

All assignments must be submitted no later than 5:00 PM on Thursday 26 April 2001, the final day of the undergraduate examination period.

Assignment #1 - Using Splus or SAS, whichever one you are more experienced in, do an exploratory data analysis for the Old-Growth Forest Case Study. Write a report summarizing your results.

Assignment #2 - Using Splus or SAS, whichever one you DIDN'T use in Assignment #1, repeat Assignment #1. Use this opportunity to refine your analysis and perhaps try some modelling.

Assignment #3 - I have forwarded to you two e-mails from Lianjun Zhang, College of Environmental Science & Forestry, State University of New York at Syracuse. He is studying the distribution of tree diameter in mixed-species forests and questions whether he should use 2-parameter or 3-parameter Weibull distributions. There are four examples of data attached to the second e-mail. Investigate the problem and write a consultant's report. If there is anything you want to know, ask me and if I don't know we can ask him. The questions he asks are very specific. I don't expect you to go beyond responding to these questions.
