Do you present statistical analysis results to senior management?
Do you sometimes have problems understanding your statisticians' technical jargon during presentations?
If so, you are invited to attend the seventh of a seminar series of Applied Financial Statistics and Marketing seminars sponsored by SORA (the Southern Regional Association of the Statistical Society of Canada and the Southern Ontario Chapter of the American Statistical Association). Co-sponsorship for these seminars is provided by Scotiabank and Royal Bank.
This practical seminar is targeted towards business people who would like to upgrade their skills and knowledge in Statistics. The examples used in this seminar will relate directly to the banking industry. For example, tests for differences due to gender, age, and card types among VISA card customers will be discussed.
The effectiveness of your presentation is important in capturing an audience's attention. Our speaker, Tamara Arenovich, will teach us some simple yet powerful statistical methods to design and develop useful models for decision making, and to present the results in an effective and intuitive manner.
Statistical methodology plays a central role in a wide range of disciplines. However, many of us attended our last statistics class a long time ago, and may not remember it very well. This seminar is designed to review some of the more basic statistical concepts which are central to the procedures and algorithms commonly used in the banking industry today. Through a hands-on approach with practical examples based on financial data, this seminar is designed to help both non-statisticians and statisticians alike, to refresh their knowledge of the fundamental concepts of statistics. The seminar will discuss simple descriptive statistics and graphical techniques, data screening, and significance testing.
Tamara Arenovich is currently working as a statistical consultant at the University of Toronto. Here, she manages the Statistical Consulting Service, which operates through the Department of Statistics and services a wide range of clients, including faculty and graduate students within the university, hospital affiliates, and others. Through their involvement with the service, students are provided with hands-on applied statistical experience and training. In addition, Tamara frequently teaches short courses and workshops relating to statistical software packages.
Prior to her current job, Tamara worked as a marketing analyst at InfoWorks, and provided analytical services for a number of clients. Her accomplishments include the construction and interpretation of statistical models, marketing campaign post-analysis, customer base segmentation and customer profiling.
Tamara received her M.Sc. in Statistics from the University of Toronto in 1999, and earned her B.Sc. (Hon.) degree from the University of Toronto as well. She is currently a member of both the Statistical Society of Canada and the American Statistical Association, and is actively involved in promoting awareness of these associations to graduate students and other applied statisticians.
