What Math & Stats Electives should I choose?

Here are some suggestions.

I like math and stats and I want to pursue a career using the skills I have acquired: I like math and stats and I want to pursue a career using the skills I have acquired:
  • Take the opportunity to work on your programming skills -- Math 1MP3, Math 3MB3, Math 3Q03, Physics 2G03
  • Take some statistics courses -- Stats 2MB3, Stats 3A03 (also addressing programming)
  • Get a broad background in mathematics --the required courses Math 3A03 and Math 3X03 cover analysis. Also take algebra in Math 3E03, differential equations in Math 3F03, discrete math in Math 3U03, 3V03, geometry in Math 3B03, logic in Math 4L03, numerical analysis in Math 3Q03
  • Relax with some diverse topics in Math 3CY3, Math 3DC3, Math 3MB3, Math 3QC3, MATH 3TP3, STATS 3PG3
  • Challenge yourself with a Level IV course -- choose one that follows after your favourite topic in Level III.

  • Take advantage of the experiential teaching course Math 3ET3 to get some experience
  • Get a broad background in mathematics --the required courses Math 3A03 (analysis) and Math 3X03 (complex variables). Also take Math 3E03 (algebra), Math 3F03 (differential equations), discrete math in Math 3U03, 3V03, Math 3B03 (geometry), Math 4L03 (logic), Math 3Q03 (numerical analysis)
  • Take some statistics courses -- Stats 2MB3, Stats 3A03
  • Take the opportunity to work on your programming skills -- Math 1MP3, Math 3MB3, Math 3Q03, Physics 2G03
  • Relax with some diverse topics in Math 3CY3, Math 3DC3, Math 3MB3, Math 3QC3, MATH 3TP3, STATS 3PG3
  • Take advantage of the flexibility in your program to pursue a minor in another subject for a second teachable.

  • Take the opportunity to work on your programming skills -- Math 1MP3, Math 3MB3, Math 3Q03, Physics 2G03

  • Don't forget that mathematical training is also good statistics training
  • Take the opportunity to work on your programming skills -- Math 1MP3, Math 3MB3, Math 3Q03, Physics 2G03

  • Follow the actuarial program
  • Contact the student actuarial society, and get to work!
  • Start taking the actuarial exams.
  • Take the opportunity to work on your programming skills -- Math 1MP3, Math 3MB3, Math 3Q03, Physics 2G03

I like math and stats and I want to pursue a professional career in finance: I like math and stats and I want to pursue a professional career in finance:
  • Take all the financial math courses, as well as Math 3A03, Math 3FF3, Stats 4A03
  • Consider a master's program in mathematical finance
  • Take the opportunity to work on your programming skills -- Math 1MP3, Math 3MB3, Math 3Q03, Physics 2G03

I like math and/or stats and I am also interested in studying another subject: I like math and/or stats and I am also interested in studying another subject:
  • Math and Biology: Math 3F03, Math 3FF3, Math 3DC3, Math 3MB3, Math 4MB3, Stats 3A03 fit well with your biology courses. Contact members of the Mathematical Biology Faculty for more advice.
  • Math and Physics: Math 3B03, Math 4B03, Math 3F03, Math 3FF3, Math 3QC3 and Math 3T03 fit well with your physics interests
  • Math and Computer Science: Math 3TP3, Math 3QC3 and Math 4L03 fit well with your computer science interests
  • BA in Math and Economics: statistics, financial math and actuarial math are all relevant to your interests in economics
  • BA in Math and Philosophy: Math 3T03, Math 3TP3, Math and Math 4L03 fit well with your philosophy interests
  • BA in Math and English/French/History: none of the math/stats courses are exactly related, but we love your enthusiasm!
