Today, Alex Dunkel defended his Ph.D. thesis on “A Phase-Field Approach to Diffusion-Driven Fracture” in the Department of Mathematics. The committee consisting of Shengli Chen (LSU Mechanical and Industrial Engineering), Shawn Walker (LSU Mathematics), and Peter Wolenski (LSU Mathematics) was impressed by the quality of his work and the clarity of the exposition.

Alex’ thesis was supported by the grant DMS-1716763 “Diffusion-driven fracture” from the National Science Foundation.
