1 August 2018: Notes from Lecture 13 (review session) are now online under Lectures.

31 July 2018: There will be a TA review session to cover solutions to the Practice Final Exam (see below under Assessment Methods, where you will now also find the solutions to the Practice Final) on Wednesday August 1st at 12 noon in HH/305.

28 July 2018:

25 July 2018: The final assignment, Assignment 5, is now posted on Avenue to Learn .

25 July 2018:

  • The last class on 31 July 2018 will be review material only. Please email in suggestions of what you would like to see covered by Monday 30 July 2018.
  • Ideally, there will be another review session in the last week of class if a time can be found that fits enough people's schedules. If not, then there will be extra office hours. More information will follow soon. Note that there will be no instructor office hours on the day of the final exam.
  • The Final Exam is now confirmed as being Thursday August 2nd, 7pm. Please see below under Assessment Methods for your testing room (same as for both midterms).
  • Course evaluations are open for this week (Monday to Friday) only: please visit the Course Evaluations page. All types of feedback (positive and negative) will really help in lots of ways, and the more responses there are, the more meaningful the results will be, so please do take some time to fill this out. Thanks very much!

20 July 2018:

  • Lecture notes from Lectures 9 and 10 are now online, along with suggested problems from the textbook for the relevant sections.

19 July 2018: Solutions to the practice second midterm are now online under Assessment Methods.

16 July 2018: Assignment 3 is now posted on Avenue to Learn . The solution to the exercise on QR Decomposition set during Lecture 6 may now be found under Lectures.

15 July 2018: With apologies for a technical delay:

  • the lecture notes from lectures 7 and 8 are now online under Lectures;
  • the syllabus for the second midterm is clearly marked on the list of Main Topics;
  • also listed there are suggested problems for the relevant topics from Lecture 8;
  • and a practice version of the second midterm is available below under Assessment Methods.

12 July 2018: Midterm 2 is now confirmed as Thursday July 19th, 7pm. Please check below for details under Assessment Methods. (The logistical details are exactly the same as for Midterm 1.)

11 July 2018:

  • The marks for the first midterm can now be found in Avenue to Learn . The test papers will be returned at the next class (Lecture 8).
  • Suggested textbook problems for Lecture 7 are now listed under Main Topics.

6 July 2018: Notes from Lectures 5 and 6 are now online as well as corresponding suggested textbook problems for Lecture 6; please see the Main Topics/Lectures page.

4 July 2018:

  • The solutions to the practice first midterm can now be found on this webpage; see Assessment Methods.
  • Assignment 2 is now available online (again, sorry, with a delay due to technical difficulties that it turns out were not fully resolved after last week's issues...) within Avenue to Learn ; the link to the assignment at WileyPlus is to be found in the Assignments folder/module.
    Note: Although the last few problems are on material we have not yet covered in class, this assignment is being made available already as the first 5 problems on this assignment are on material related to the first midterm, so you may wish to use them as practice in preparing for the test.
  • Suggested problems for the topics covered in Lecture 5 are now added to the list of Topics.

29 June 2018: Details of the syllabus for the first midterm, as well as a practice midterm, can now be found on this webpage; see Assessment Methods.
Notes from Lectures 3 and 4 are also now uploaded to Lectures. Suggested problems for the corresponding topics covered may be found under Topics.
The solutions to the exercises set at the end of Lecture 1 are also uploaded now, and can likewise be found under Lectures.

28 June 2018: Midterm 1 is confirmed as July 5th, 2018, at 7pm, lasting 1 hour. Please check below for the location of your testing room under Assessment Methods.

27 June 2018: Assignment 1 is finally now available within Avenue to Learn ; the link to the assignment at WileyPlus is to be found in the Assignments folder/module. Sorry again for the delay!
Information announced in class last night about writing the final examination at a time different from that (tentatively) scheduled may now be found below under Assessment Methods. Also, if you are a student requiring special accommodations, please also see the same place below for information about midterms and the final examination.
Suggested problems for the topics covered in Lecture 3 are now added to the list of Topics.

23 June 2018: There are now suggested problems to be found on the Topics list, for the material covered in Lectures 1 and 2 as well as some topics likely to be covered in the upcoming lecture. There are unfortunately some technical issues getting the first assignment linked from Avenue to Learn to WileyPLUS. Please check back for more information soon.

22 June 2018: Augmented in-class notes from the first two lectures are now posted on Avenue to Learn and on the Lectures page. Instructions for accessing WileyPLUS from inside Avenue to Learn are now given under Assignments below. Stay tuned for the first assignment which will appear on Avenue to Learn soon, as well as suggested practice problems, which will also be posted under Topics.

19 June 2018: The Avenue to Learn site should now be accessible.
There is some tentative information about course topics and content on the new Lectures page.
